ODD FAMILY.....

My family is a little odd especailly for a 6' 210 pound irshman to refer to a 5'7'' chinese guy as "Dad". My best friend is from chinese descent and his family took me during my senior year of high school. I lived in a different city then where I attended school so at times I use to stay at his home during the school week to make my life a little easier. Also, during my senior year it was thought my mother has ovarian cancer. During this time i stayed with his family full time. My mother went to stay with her brother in Seattle once she had all of her chemo treatments.
I'm so thankful that I have these people to call my family. They have always treated me like their child and no different. Once i returned from college in Nebraska where did I go but to the place I called home to see my chinese parents. There are a total of three chinese kids and one kid in the family. The olderst is my bestfriend Charlie who is 28 years of age. Charlie is the Director of Fitness for Gilroy Health and Fitness in Gilroy, Calfornia. The second olderst is Diana Mei, she is 27 years of age and currently finishing up her dissertation at the University of Illinios in Urbana. Diana Mei also teaches Biology courses at the University. She use to be the ultimate dork while growing up. However, over the years as I have matured she has become closer to me than anyone. Then there is me the 26 year old former college football player who is writing his thesis at SJSU. The youngest i 17 years of age and a senior at Live Oak High School. Her name is Erika. She is very similar to my child. Once I returned home I kind of took over parenting efforts for her. i use to drop her off at school, pikc her up and attend all of her sporting games. She is very active and is a great Lacross player. However, Erika is a major pain in the ass, she seems not to listen until some one gets mad and threatens to take her car away.
I love my family very much and I'm thankful for each and every one of them. I love when Chinese New Year comes around, due to fabulous food, drink, and an awesome family to celebrate it with. My Chinese Mom speaks to me in Chineses when she is very upset or just mad at me for something stupid I have done. Sometimes it is very hard to understand because she speaks so fast and with the divergence of information coming out of her mouth it is very hard for me to keep up. However, I always answer back in english and every now and then a few select chinese words. Whenever, I speak chinese to my mom she gets so happy and says to me "jia jia" you need to speak to me more in chinese to practice. I have to honestly say my chinese mom is one of the most interesting and stylish people I have ever met. When it is time for my mother to attend an event of importance in San Francisco my mother is probally most sylish lady in the room. She has great style and all of the little chinese ladies ask her advice on how to dress which is kind of funny. I'm so thankful for my parents and they way they have treated me over the years. They are the ones who I can turn to when something goes wrong in my life and they have always encouraged me to continue my education. There are some good times and bad times with the chinese fam but no matter I'll always be there for them.
